I Draw Slow return to Music Under The Mountains

After their spectacular performance last year, we had to ask the guys to come back and so Music Under The Mountains is delighted to welcome I Draw Slow back to Hollywood! Following on from the release of their latest album, Turn Your Face To The Sun, I Draw Slow have had quite the busy summer touring all over the US and Ireland. The album itself has been subject to rave reviews from both sides of the Atlantic.

 “Impressive roots, delivered with gusto and flair” – The Irish Times

“A group blending historically Irish storytelling with full Americana rhythms. Their newest album, Turn Your Face To The Sun, finds the band further developing their rich, one-of-a-kind sound…” – Elmore Magazine

“Whatever Americana scene there may be in Ireland, I Draw Slow have surely conquered it.” – The Sunday Times

This years concert will be particularly special as they will perform acoustically in St. Kevin’s Church in Hollywood, those of you who have been at such concerts in the church know that this will be something unmissable.

The Vallelys in Hollywood

“Niall, Cillian and Caoimhín have all had a very busy summer of gigs with Lunasa, Buille and various other projects throughout Europe and North America. Now they’re getting ready to do their first Irish tour together. Starting in Cork on September 17th they’ll be heading off around the country with Scottish guitarist Ross Martin. They’ll be hitting Castlebar, Hollywood, Limerick, Carrick on Shannon and Armagh before ending up in Belfast on the 27th.”

Having hosted the three Vallely brothers at previous festivals in one or another incarnation, Cillian (Uillean Pipes) in 2007, Niall (Concertina) and Caoimhín (Piano & Fiddle) as Buille in 2006 & 2009, we are delighted to once again welcome them to Hollywood!

The Vallely Brothers, Caoimhín, Cillian & Niall

Although Niall & Caoimhín are in Buille together, and Niall & Cillian have both toured and recorded together (Callan Bridge – 2002), this is first tour which the three brothers have all embarked on together, with Scottish guitarist Ross Martin joining them.

This concert will no doubt feature strong influences of jazz, classical and even blues notes, as is often encountered in Builles distinct take on Traditional music. Couple this with the “Acoustically superb” setting of St. Kevins Church of Ireland and you will have something special indeed!

Here are a couple of small tastes of what to expect, (as this will be the guys first tour together there is understandably not much of them together available), first up is a short clip from Music Under The Mountains 2007 featuring Cillian, alongside fellow Lunasa member Seán Smith and Hollywood native Tony Davoren;

And a bit of Niall & Caoimhín as Buille at 2009’s Open House Festival in Belfast;

Ensemble Ériu

“Ensemble Ériu, a septet led by Jack Talty and Neil O’Loghlen draw on a wealth of creative sources to perform arrangements of Irish traditional music rooted in the styles of West and North County Clare.”

With recent rave reviews and having been described by John Kelly of RTE Lyric FM as “An extraordinary band” and “Something Special” this is certainly not a gig to be missed!

The unique sound of Ensemble Ériu will be a treat to listen to as they perform in the equally unique setting of St. Kevin’s Church of Ireland, which has time and time again proved to be a fantastic setting for any concert!
