“Traditional Irish Music with a touch of blues”

Galway based group Portherhead will be taking their unique blend of Traditional Irish Music and Blues to Hollywood this year. The five piece group features Ballymore Eustace native Joe Junker, who apart from being well known locally as an accomplished guitarist and vocalist, is also the lead tutor for guitar with the Bursary. Alongside Joe are Liam King (Accordian), Lorcán Brady (Fiddle, Uilleann Pipes), James Frawley (Concertina) and Paul Mc Clure (Bodhrán).

Portherhead are the genesis of a new era for Irish traditional music. Blending pure traditional roots with the raw soul of the blues, they embody the spirit of the session. Their exhilarating energy and innovative musicality pervades their sound, in both their rousing live sets and in the deft allure of their debut studio album. Hailing from Inishbofin, Galway, Kildare, Cavan and Donegal, their music is a true amalgram of pan-Irish traditional culture, style and nuance.

The lads have previously toured the US and have been all over the country this Summer, including a gig at the Body and Soul Festival a couple of weeks ago and are also due for a stint at the Electric Picnic.

They will be playing in Tuttys Backroom on Saturday the 20th of September and will also be using the gig as part of the launch of their self titled debut album, a taste of which is available below.

We’re looking forward to having the guys with us this year!

You can keep track of Portherhead on Facebook, Twitter, Soundcloud and their website.
