The Laura Greaves Music School was founded in 1996, in memory of festival co-founder Laura Greaves, to provide tuition in traditional music to children from Hollywood and the surrounding area. Since the foundation of the school the aim of Music Under the Mountains has been to support the teaching of traditional music in the area, with all profits from the festival going to the school. Because of the festival, the school has been able to maintain a small bank of instruments (including fiddles, accordions and flutes) for use by the students.
A recent grant from Music Generation Wicklow has also allowed us to supplement this instrument bank, with the addition of two new accordions, two flutes and several fiddles.
The school currently provides tuition in the following instruments:
- Tin Whistle
- Flute
- Fiddle
- Guitar
- Accordion
- Banjo
- Bodhrán
Classes take place on Saturday mornings, 10.30 to 12.30, over two terms coinciding with the school year, term one being September to December and term two being December to June. The classes are held in The Hollywood Centre, right in the heart of the village of Hollywood.
