The Henry Girls

The only mystery is why they aren’t already huge.’
– Acoustic Magazine (UK)

We are delighted to be welcoming The Henry Girls to this years Music Under The Mountains Festival! The trio of sisters, hailing from Inishowen Co. Donegal shall perform in the Hollywood Centre on Sunday September 21st. Their current album, On Louder Words (2014) has generated great reviews both here and the other side of the Atlantic.

‘Confident, organic and under-stated, this collection will urge listeners to seek out The Henry Girls’ live shows for the full 3D experience.’
– The Irish Times

‘Blending Irish and American roots styles with the retro sounds of close harmony groups of the ’40s & ’50s, The Henry Girls have forged a sound of their own.
– Colm O Hare, Hot Press Magazine (IRL)

‘These young ladies hail from Co. Donegal, Ireland, but their songs are universal in theme though drawing on the roots of their Irish, Scottish and Americana roots. Their voices woven together form a rich canopy that is both open and airy at the same time, so tightly put together as to be virtually water repellant. Their voices are a piece that is so beautiful it grabs and holds the ear of the beholder. Their voice weave in and out of each other at times bending and shaping the ears. Without being overt, there is a distinct Celtic lilt to the voices, at times strong enough to betray their roots in the old country…A group to keep your eye out for..’
– FAME review (USA)

‘Latest album “Louder Than Words” is a harmony-laden delight from beginning to end.’
– Pittsburgh In Tune (USA)

The ladies have a wealth of songwriting talent, with some amazing original tracks, such as “When Will I See You Again”

The girls also have a couple of truly special covers under their belts, like this particular one of Elvis Costellos “Watching The Detectives”

This is most definitely one that is not to be missed!

“Traditional Irish Music with a touch of blues”

Galway based group Portherhead will be taking their unique blend of Traditional Irish Music and Blues to Hollywood this year. The five piece group features Ballymore Eustace native Joe Junker, who apart from being well known locally as an accomplished guitarist and vocalist, is also the lead tutor for guitar with the Bursary. Alongside Joe are Liam King (Accordian), Lorcán Brady (Fiddle, Uilleann Pipes), James Frawley (Concertina) and Paul Mc Clure (Bodhrán).

Portherhead are the genesis of a new era for Irish traditional music. Blending pure traditional roots with the raw soul of the blues, they embody the spirit of the session. Their exhilarating energy and innovative musicality pervades their sound, in both their rousing live sets and in the deft allure of their debut studio album. Hailing from Inishbofin, Galway, Kildare, Cavan and Donegal, their music is a true amalgram of pan-Irish traditional culture, style and nuance.

The lads have previously toured the US and have been all over the country this Summer, including a gig at the Body and Soul Festival a couple of weeks ago and are also due for a stint at the Electric Picnic.

They will be playing in Tuttys Backroom on Saturday the 20th of September and will also be using the gig as part of the launch of their self titled debut album, a taste of which is available below.

We’re looking forward to having the guys with us this year!

You can keep track of Portherhead on Facebook, Twitter, Soundcloud and their website.
